Fitting custom hearing protection
Custom hearing protection is provided by earplugs or earmolds. Earmolds are worn in the bowl of the ear at the top of the ear canal and earplugs are worn in the ear canal.
The audiologist will make an impression of your ears to ensure your protection fits perfectly. The process only takes a few minutes and is completely painless. The casting process ensures your earplugs or earmolds can be worn comfortably for hours on end.
Earmolds come in many sizes, colors and types. Some are constructed from solid material, while others are made from soft or spongy materials. Full-shell earmolds provide protection in high-level noise situations while half-shell earmolds are worn for mid-level noise exposure. The audiologist will recommend the right type of earmold for your individual needs.
You may opt for earmolds that come with a filtered attenuator, that allows you to communicate while still blocking out harmful noise. Specialty earmolds for wear over earbuds or under pilot boom-mic headsets are also available.
Earplugs may be made from solid or soft material. Special earplugs provide protection to musicians and medical professionals who still need to hear some sound while protecting their hearing against excessive noise. Handles or detachable cords make removing and inserting these earplugs easy.
Earplugs are also worn to create a quiet environment for sleeping or to protect from water or wind.
Whatever your needs, Cayman Hearing Center can protect your ears and your hearing.
Musicians’ monitors and hearing protection
The Cayman Islands enjoy a rich musical heritage, and we are fortunate to have so many musicians living among us. These musicians have special hearing protection needs. Any practice session or performance can damage hearing if it isn’t protected. But standard hearing protection distorts sound frustrating the performer.
Cayman Hearing Center offers hearing protection designed specifically for the needs of musicians. Musician earplugs reduce the level of sound without distortion, so the sound of instruments and voices remains clear. In addition, Cayman Hearing Center provides special in-ear monitors to deliver sound as the audience hears it without damaging levels of amplification.
