Troubleshooting hearing aid problems
Sometimes, the fix is simple, and you can do it yourself without bringing your devices in. For example, if the volume isn’t loud enough, it might not be a change in your hearing, you might have accidentally turned the manual volume control down. So, give it a quick check. If that’s not the problem, check the receiver tube to see if it is blocked by wax, debris or water. Finally, ensure the microphone is clean and not blocked by earwax.
Distorted sound often happens when the battery level is low. Remove the batteries and inspect the battery contacts for any corrosion or debris. You can gently clean soiled contacts with a cotton swab and a drop of vinegar or alcohol. When the battery contacts are completely dry, install fresh batteries and firmly close the battery door. Also make sure the device is on the right setting, as you might have placed it on telecoil by accident.
If the hearing aid is dead, check to make sure you placed the switch fully in the “on” position. If this doesn’t solve the problem, replace the batteries with fresh ones.
Excessive wax build-up prevents your hearing aids from fitting properly and the result is whistling and feedback. So, carefully clean your hearing aids and your ears to solve this problem.
If these troubleshooting tips fail to resolve the problem, just bring your hearing aid into Cayman Hearing Center, and we will be happy to diagnose the problem.
