Hearing Aid Repairs
Expert Hearing Aid Repair for the Cayman Islands
Why do we find those YouTube videos of enraged people completely destroying their computers?
Maybe it’s because we all get frustrated with technology whenever it doesn’t do the things we expect it to do. You may have the same experience if your hearing aids stop working.
Please don’t destroy them!
In addition to being a significant investment, your hearing aids have the potential to reconnect you to the world around you, improve your overall health, and limit your risk of developing various negative physical and mental health challenges.
While features like water and dust resistance along with the capacity to limit wax buildup are improving hearing aid performance, your ears continue to be a challenging environment for digital electronics.
If they’re “on the blink,” expert hearing aid repair is the right solution.
Taking Care of Your Hearing Aids
If you take care of your hearing aids, then they will take care of you. With proper cleaning and care you can prevent many of the issues that cause hearing aid malfunctions. Here’s what to do:
Give them a soft place to land
Whenever you clean them or change the batteries, work over your bed, or place a towel on the work surface to prevent damage if they fall on a hard surface
Protect them when not in use
Potential damage to your hearing aids can be avoided if they are stored in the hard case they come in rather than just tossing them into your purse or slipping them into your pocket.
Check the batteries and battery compartment
Debris and moisture in the battery compartment can lead to corrosion or shorting.
Keep them dry
Remove them before showering or swimming, and use a hearing aid dryer or dehumidifier to reduce moisture.
Prevent wax buildup
Daily cleaning and changing out wax guards according to manufacturer specs (if applicable) are the best ways to prevent wax buildup.
Avoid temperature extremes
Avoid leaving your hearing aids on a windowsill or in your hot car where they may be damaged by UV exposure, and protect them from cold weather by wearing a hat, scarf, or earmuffs.
Bring them in for regular maintenance
To get the best performance from them, we recommend that you bring your hearing aids into the clinic every six months for a clean & check, our version of scheduled maintenance.
4 Common Hearing Aid Repairs
The delicate electronic components in hearing aids make them susceptible to damage for normal daily use. Many repairs are avoidable when you are aware of what hearing aid repair technicians fix most often.
Clogged Acoustical Tubing
Unfortunately, hearing aids stop the ear’s natural process of getting rid of earwax. So the buildup of earwax, either in the ear or in the acoustical tubing, causes significant issues and requires replacement.
Battery Power Issues
Fitting batteries wrong or using the wrong battery is among the minor issues related to hearing aid repair. However, more complex issues can stem from corrosion or a loose or faulty wire in the battery compartment
Damage to the Hearing Aid Hook
The hearing aid hook, the part that fits over your ear, often receives the brunt of damage from general daily use. When damaged, the hearing aid won’t stay in place. It can be repaired if caught in time, but sometimes it will need to be replaced.
Microphone Damage
Microphone damage is usually the result of your hearing aid falling onto a hard surface or being stepped on. This issue is not always easy to fix in the office and may require sending your device to the manufacturer for repair.
